EVA Ranks ninth in AirlineRatings’ World’s Safest Airlines for 2023

Analyses included safety, innovation, pilot training, COVID protocols

EVA Air ranks ninth among AirlineRatings.com’s top-20 World’s Safest Airlines for 2023. This marks the airline’s 10th consecutive year to earn a place among the global ratings website’s “safest airlines in the world.” The website’s safety-rating analyses considers serious incidents, audits from aviation’s governing bodies and lead associations, fleet age, pilot training and COVID protocols. Travelers can learn more about EVA’s commitment to safety and award-winning services, explore its global route system and book flights at www.evaair.com.

“EVA has made ‘safety without compromise’ our priority from the day we were established,” said EVA President Clay Sun. “Even during strict COVID lockdowns, we upheld safety practices and met our high operating standards. This recognition is a credit to the work and commitment of our entire EVA team. It is also an inspiration for all of us to continue to do our best to provide our passengers with the safest and the most comfortable flying experiences possible.”

Now that Taiwan and most countries in Asia have loosed COVID restrictions, EVA is steadily resuming its global schedule and launching services to new gateways, including Milan, Munich and, starting on March 30, Clark International Airport in the Philippines.

“Airlines have incidents every day. Many are aircraft or engine manufacturer issues, not airline operational problems. It is the way the flight crew handles these incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one. Our top 20 safest airlines 2023 are always at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence, and the launching of new more advanced aircraft like the Airbus A350 (above) and Boeing 787,” said Geoffrey Thomas, Editor-in-Chief, AirlineRatings.com.

AirlineRatings.com was launched in 2013 and rates the safety, in-flight product and COVID-19 compliance of 385 airlines using its unique seven-star rating system. It has been used by millions of passengers from 195 countries and has become the industry standard for safety, product and COVID-19 ratings.

Over more than 30 years of operating international passenger and airfreight flights, EVA has earned a reputation for excellence in its services and safety practices. It consistently gets high marks from AirlineRatings.com and JACDEC and, through biennial audits, it has repeatedly secured IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certifications.

EVA to Launch Nonstop Flights to Clark International Airport

Third Philippines destination adds convenience, flexibility

EVA Air will launch daily nonstop flights between Taipei and the northwestern Philippines, starting on March 30, 2023. The addition of Clark International Airport will give EVA three gateways in the Philippines and boost the convenience and flexibility passengers enjoy now with Manila and Cebu service. By the end of March, the airline will be operating 35 flights a week to the Philippines, offering travelers from throughout Asia, Europe, Australia and North America more arrival and departure options. The new gateway is tailor-made for Taiwan – Philippines travelers. It will also be attractive to American and European passengers who transit to the Philippines through Taipei.

The airline will fly an Airbus A321-200 to Clark and provide conveniently scheduled flights:

Route Flight No. Frequency Departure Arrival

Clark-Taipei BR234 Daily 12:00 14:00

Clark is northwest of Angeles City in Pampanga Province on the site of the United States’ former Clark Air Force Base. After the US Air Force decommissioned the base, the Philippine government repurposed it as a special economic zone. It’s a secure area with beautiful scenery, a pleasant climate and numerous resorts. Leisure travelers can experience light aircraft, hang glide, paraglide, zipline, explore caves, snorkel, surf, fish and enjoy beautiful beaches, along with the warm hospitality and delicious foods the Philippines are known for.

EVA Premium Economy, Economy Passengers Get Special Meal Choices

EVA Air is offering creative new meal choices, especially for Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers on flights from Taipei to the United States, Canada, Australia and nonstop to Europe, from October 1 through December 31, 2022. Ticketed passengers can purchase these limited availability dining selections now by logging into Manage Your Trip on the official EVA Air website or EVA Mobile APP from 21 days until 24 hours before their scheduled departures. More information about EVA destinations and services, including pre-order options for limited numbers of the special, master-chef crafted meals is available at http://www.evaair.com.

These special Premium Economy and Economy menu additions are among more services and conveniences EVA passengers can look forward to as post-pandemic travel flourishes. Passengers can now preview menus for all cabins in advance of ticketed flights and pre-select main meals in Premium Economy Class in addition to Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel and Business. Master Chef Huang Ching Biao created a multi-course meal selection featuring his signature steamed halibut with chopped chili paste paired with his seasoned shrimp and lime vinaigrette, chayote vines salad with pine nuts and water chestnut cake with osmanthus for dessert, all served in traditional Tan-banquet style.

Evergreen Sky Catering Celebrity Chef Joe Huang worked magic to design a satisfying, meatless main course of artichoke with plant-based lasagna preceded by an appetizer of layered plant-based crepes filled with chopped truffles and accompanied by an apricot tart with oriental beauty tea jelly for dessert. Both special meals are presented on tableware from Singapore luxury brand Luzerne, elegantly plated and accompanied by appetizers, breads and desserts. Availability is limited to eight special meals in Premium Economy and 12 in Economy Class. Passengers can upgrade to one of these Royal Laurel or Business Class meals for a NTD800 fee (approximately US$25.75) before departure.

These special, limited availability meals were created exclusively for EVA by internationally known Master Chef Huang Ching Biao, recognized for his popular Chinese style “Tan House Banquet,” and Evergreen Sky Catering’s own professional chefs led by Chef Joe Huang who originated a healthy, Western-style plant-based meal with a tasty meat or protein substitute. Main ingredients used in the plant-based selection are locally sourced in Taiwan, helping EVA further reduce carbon emissions.

At the same time, EVA is also offering delicious tastes of Taiwan on selected routes. It invited the acclaimed Shin Yeh Restaurant Group to develop a unique new dish they named Shin Yeh Special Stir-Fried Pork Hock with Garlic, Basil and Three Cups Sauce that is also available to Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers on outbound Taipei flights to some destinations in the United States, Canada, Mainland China and on inbound travel from Japan to Taipei.

Recognizing that personalized travel is a significant future travel trend, EVA used its time during COVID lockdowns to accelerate digital transformation. Passengers can now use their own personal mobile devices to do everything from booking and purchasing tickets to checking in. It introduced a flexible fare product selection or Fare Family, designed to meet different passengers’ needs, including mileage accumulation and baggage allowances. And its debut of the special meal selections gives Premium Economy and Economy passengers one more personalized travel choice for all the trips they plan as the pandemic steadily fades into the background.
